Step 2 - Selecting a Picture

For a single Baseplate kit the picture should be very simple with strong, clear images. Due to the nature of the medium less detail is possible than with larger pictures. As such faces, people or animals will not turn out well.

Most people like to create kits with more detail than what a single Baseplate can provide. As such, 4, 6 or even 9 Baseplates have proven to display pictures very well.

Using the PixelHobby Designer software it is possible to see what the picture will look like once your kit has been finished.

Portraits

Pictures of loved ones are very popular subjects and make excellent presents. But the picture must be chosen carefully. The picture must be clear and taken as close up as possible. A 4 Baseplate picture may work, but you will probably need at least 6 baseplates for good results. Looking at the design in PixelHobby Designer you will be able to see aproximately how it will come out and from there you can adjust your Baseplate size accordingly.

Other Pictures, Art, Design etc

For the artistic person, PixelHobby can present great opportunities. It is possible to turn one’s own paintings, or pictures from books or postcards, into pixelhobby designs, and they can be most effective. However, some pictures work better than others. The best thing to do is experiment with the software, and find out what type of pictures will produce the best results.
